Age 76 and a resident of Franklinton, he died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Riverside Medical Center. He earned a master of science degree from LSU in 1957 and began his education career. He was a retired vocational agriculture teacher in the Washington Parish schools and later served as area supervisor and also state director of vocational agriculture education for the state Department of Education. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Franklinton, and a 50-year member of Franklinton Masonic Lodge 101. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survived by his wife, Bevie Stuart Simmons of Franklinton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Chanda and Reid Corkern of Franklinton and Jamie and Brett Simpson of Mount Hermon; five stepchildren and spouses, Shirley and Jerry Bordelon of Pensacola, Fla., Gary and Sandra Stuart of Bassfield, Miss., Greg and Rebecca Stuart of Franklinton, Jimmy and Diana Stuart of Pine and Brad and Amy Stuart of Hammond; a grandson and spouse, Tommy and Karen Vise of Alexandria; and nine stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna H. Simmons. Visitation at Crain Funeral Home, Franklinton, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday. Visitation in the funeral home chapel from 8 a.m. until funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Karl Tingle and Dr. Jerry Barlow officiating. Burial in Ellis Cemetery , Franklin.
