Modess Simmons Dead
Special to the Picayune.
Franklinton, L., April 18 - Modess Simmons, the young man who was shot here Friday night, died Sunday morning, at 1 o'clock, and his remains were interred in the Ellis Cemetery. A large crowd attended his funeral, for he was a popular young man and held in high esteem by all who knew him.
Mr. Simmons made a statement before he died, the gist of which was that he was shot by [text deleted]. Early in the night of the tragedy, the boys, who were always the best of friends, quarrelled over a trivial matter, and later in the night both, under the influence of liquor, met and the quarrel was renewed with the above result.
[Text deleted] is at large. Both boys were 18 years of age.
