Welsh – Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church for Rev. E. James “Richard” Guidry who was called home on December 7, 2021, at the age of 75.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette, LA.

He was born on September 27, 1946, in Welsh, Louisiana to the late Harry D. Guidry, Jr. and Wilma (Johnson) Guidry. He was one of eight children.

He graduated from Bethune High School in 1967. He worked as a machinist for 40 years and was called to preach in 1976. He started his ministry at New Spirit Church in Santa Ana California, under the leadership of the late Reverend T. J. Hollins. After returning home to Welsh Louisiana, he united with the New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend A. White. He later became pastor of New Hope Baptist Church from 1979 to 1983. He then went on to become the Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Abbeville Louisiana, from 1983 until the time of his death. When he wasn’t spreading the Word of God, he enjoyed hunting, golfing, and clowning.

James “Richard” Guidry leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Patricia Briggs Guidry; three sons, Patrick (Angela) Guidry of Lake Charles, Derrick Beavers, Orlando Mitchell of Lafayette, LA; daughter, Lillian Missi (Mark) Guidry of Yorba Linda, CA; Brother, Harry (Christine) Guidry of Welsh, LA; sisters, Linda Guillory, Wilmanette Guidry of Welsh, LA and Debbie (William) Frazier of Cypress, TX; grandkids, Kyle, Jalen, Gabrielle, Taylor, Alisia, Kolbi, Koen, Kalen, Fabian, and one greatgrandchild, Kasey, and a host of sisters and brothers-in-law, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Beavers Guidry; Children, Conrad Guidry, Terrence Levi; parents, Harry D. Guidry, Jr. and Wilma Johnson Guidry and S.J. “NeNe” Jones and Lillian “T-Ya” Jones; Sisters, Juanita Guidry Simon, Cheryl Guidry Brown, Felicia Gray and Mary Eva Castille; brother, William J. Guidry.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 17, 2021, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Abbeville, LA from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, visitation will be held at New Jerusalem Baptist Church from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
