Lafayette - Carolyn Faulk Beavers-Guidry of Macedonia Baptist Church quietly transitioned to her eternal home on Monday, December 24, 2012. She departed her life at M. D. Anderson Center in Houston, Texas.
A home going celebration will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Progressive Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Her beloved former pastor and friend, Lloyd Joiner, Jr. of Progressive Baptist Church will officiate.
Carolyn was a proactive member of Macedonia Baptist Church under the spiritual leadership of her husband, Pastor E. James Guidry. She was a loyal member of YMA of Progressive Baptist Church and a social club, “Church Folks.” She will be remembered as unselfishly giving of her time and talents at Progressive Baptist church working with the Youth Ministry, member of the Mission Ministry and PIC during her membership at Progressive Baptist Church.
Carolyn was born in Lafayette, LA on September 1, 1951 to Joyce Cola Faulk and the late Jesse C. Faulk. Carolyn was the second of seven siblings whom she shared lifelong relationships of love and friendship. Carolyn graduated from Paul Breaux High School and Grambling State University where she earned a degree in Social Work. Carolyn worked a few years in the Monroe School District and 32 years with LPSS/SMILE Head Start Program as an Educator/Center Supervisor. She was an awesome educator who strived for excellence in all of her students and loved all children. Carolyn was a very loving and genuinely honest person with an outgoing personality. She loved everyone she came in contact with. Carolyn loved cooking for her family on her designated Sunday, making popcorn balls and watching Wheel of Fortune with her mother. Carolyn was an avid “Coupon Queen” shopper! She was happiest spending time with family and friends. Her skills as a financial analyst were impeccable. Her wisest advices were given to many of her family and friends.
Carolyn, also known as ”Grammy” and “Nanny Carolyn” is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Pastor E. James Guidry; one awesome son, Derrick Leon (Jessica) Beavers; her mother, Joyce Cola Faulk; two sisters, Barbara (Glynn) Senegal and Ada Faulk-Thomas; three brothers; Dwight (Eula) Faulk, George, and John Glenn (Wanda) Faulk; three step-children; Missy Guidry of Anaheim, California, Patrick (Angie) Guidry of Lake Charles, LA, and Karen Taylor of Monroe, LA, one brother-in-law; Harry (Christine) Guidry, five sisters-in-law; Linda (John) Guillory, Wilmanette (Myracle) Guidry, Mary Castille all of Welsh, LA, Debbie (William) Frazier of Katy,Texas, and Mary Guidry of Westlake, LA, one step-sister, Nora Lee St. Julien, and three uncles and four aunts. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Alisia, Kolbi, Kalen, Koen, Kyle, and Jalen. Carolyn was also Godmother to Livingston Alfred III of Baton Rouge, LA, Diondria Michelle Williams of Dallas, Texas, Karren Rochelle Senegal, Nikki Faulk, Travis Duane Thomas, Cole Leon Faulk, Aryanna Elise Darby, and Carli Newton of Lafayette, LA,and Caleb Xavier Christy of Irving, Texas. Carolyn will be dearly missed by a special cousin, Idell Leavy of Accokeek, Maryland, a host of relatives, friends, Macedonia and Progressive Baptist Church families, and colleagues from SMILE Head Start Program.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse C. Faulk, her brother, Walter Leon; grandparents; Livingston and Nita Alfred; three brothers-in-law; W. T. Thomas, William Guidry and Joe Castille, a step-son, Edward Conrad Guidry; and one step-sister, Ruth Hudson.
Her family would like to give special thanks for the loving care she received at M. D. Anderson Center of Houston, Texas and Cancer Center of Acadiana.
Pallbearers will be Harry D. Guidry II, Adrien Richard, Pastor Carl Fontenot, Pastor Montrell Bradley, Kerry Ryan Senegal, and Ronnie Dartez.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Progressive Baptist Church from 7:00 a.m. until time of services.
