Osburn
April 30, 1921 - December 7, 2005
Osburn C. Corkern, age 84, a resident of Franklinton, died at 2:52 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 in Riverside Medical Center. He was a retired employee of the U.S. Post Office in Franklinton, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of Woodmen of the World, the American Legion and Bethel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Burkhalter Corkern of Franklinton; a daughter, Barbara Creel of Franklinton; a son Greg Corkern of Prairieville; nine grandchildren, Jeannine Arnold, John Arnold, Chad Creel, Bobbi Corkern, Penny Creel, Clint Corkern, Kyle Corkern, Callie Corkern and Neal Corkern; two great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Elois and Ralph Watson of Franklinton; and a son-in-law, Johnny Arnold of Atlanta.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Arnold; his parents, Clarence and Nancy Jane Penny Corkern; and a brother, Nathan Corkern.
Visitation is being held today from 11 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the Crain Funeral Home. The Rev. Denny Brumfield will officiate, with interment in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Ruth
May 2, 1920 - June 12, 2006
Ruth Burkhalter Corkern, age 86, a resident of Franklinton, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, June 12 in Riverside Medical Center.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the widow of Osburn Corkern.
She is survived by one son, Greg Corkern of St Amant; one daughter, Barbara Creel of Franklinton; nine grandchildren, Jeannine Arnold, John Arnold, Chad Creel, Bobbi Corkern, Penny Creel, Clint Corkern, Kyle Corkern, Callie Corkern and Neal Corkern; and two great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Arnold; three brothers, Jep, Buster and Lat Burkhalter; and five sisters, Willie Miller, Athalene Hyde, Evie Sylvest, Irene Keim and Beulah Burkhalter.
Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, June 13 from 10 a.m. until time for the final service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
The Rev. Denny Brumfield officiated, with interment following in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
