FRANKLINTON - Richard L. "R.L." Jenkins, age 92, a resident of the Springhill community near Franklinton, died at 10:23 a.m. yesterday in St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Covington.
He was a retired employee of Standard Gravel Company and a member of the Franklinton First Baptist Church. In 1992 he was awarded deacon emeritus status for having served as a deacon at both First Baptist and Springhill Baptist Churches for over 50 years.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Darryl Lee and Annwood M. Jenkins of Monroe and Richard Dennis and Jan M. Jenkins of Franklinton; a daughter and fianc�, Beth Pettit and Lionel Jones of Franklinton; six grandchildren and their spouses, Lee and Leslie Jenkins, Lynn J. and Beau Box, Scott and Helen Jenkins, Leanne J. and Josh Norris, Rand and Robin Pettit and David Pettit; six great-grandchildren, Will and Christopher Jenkins, Laurel Ann Box and Beau James Box, Scott, Sara and Mary Grace Jenkins, Marah and Jackson Norris; three brothers, Chester Jenkins and Rev. Larry Jenkins, both of Franklinton and Rex Jenkins of Kingston TN; two sisters, Charlene Spencer and Florena Durden, both of Franklinton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine M. Jenkins; his parents, Charlie and Zula McCain Jenkins; and a brother, Errol Jenkins.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. today, continuing after 9 a.m. tomorrow. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will follow in the Morris Cemetery in Franklinton.
