Newton Joseph Barber died 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 22, 1989, at his residence in Franklinton . He was 65, and a native of Franklinton . He was a retired dairyman and electrician. He was a U.S. veteran of World War II. Visiting at Crain Funeral Home, Franklinton , 8 a.m. Wednesday until religious services at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Joey Miller and the Rev. Gene Richards. Burial in Magee- Springhill Cemetery , near Franklinton . Survived by wife, Dorothy Mae Salita Barber; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Linda Jean) Harper, Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Gerald (Evelyn Kay) Jones, Franklinton ; two brothers, Delon Barber, Franklinton , and Robert H. Barber, Bogalusa; two sisters, Mrs. Elva Hughes, Livingston, and Mrs. Mary Louise Grantham, Bogalusa; and four grandchildren. Hewas a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Franklinton .
