LAFAYETTE - Funeral services are incomplete but will be held at a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday afternoon in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for John Melvin Dugas, 83, who passed away October 28, 2014. Lectors for the service will be Veronica Bourque and Hilary Bourque; gift bearers will be Whitney Vedell, Yvette Patin and Jolie Bourque. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife Jeanette Rosemary Dugas of Scott; three daughters Katherine (Tracy) Patin of Carencro, Bernadette Ann Dugas of Carencro, and Veronica (Shannon) Bourque of Port Barre; sisters, Rosa Mae Thibodeaux, Thelma Hebert, Marion Naquin, and Irene Leger; brother Albert (Joanne) Dugas; sister-in-law Rowena (Danny) Broussard; brother-in-law Ray Reeder; grandsons Jason (Chasey) Patin, Zachary Bourque and Oakley Bourque; granddaughters Yvette Patin, Whitney (CJ) Vedell, Hilary Bourque, and Jolie Bourque; and great-grandchildren Hudson Vedell, Jessie Ann Vedell, Jackson Patin and Abigail Patin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Yola and Leonard Dugas, and his sister, Anna Lee Roger.

A native and lifelong resident of Scott, John was a United States Army veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired self-employed barber and Lafayette Parish school bus driver and a member of the American Brahman and Breeders Association (ABBA).

Pallbearers will be Jason Patin, Zachary Bourque, Oakley Bourque, Tracy Patin, Shannon Patin and Dennis Leger.

The family requests that visitation be held Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 9:00 am until time of service. A rosary will be prayed prior to Mass at 11:00 am.
