August 1, 1912 - July 12, 2013

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 20, 2013, 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Mr Warren Williams, 100. He will be buried in Calvary Cemetery.

On Friday, July 12, 2013, Warren Williams was taken into God’s loving arms after 100 years of life. He went into his eternal sleep at home in Lafayette, Louisiana with family by his side.

Warren was born August 1, 1912 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His father was Eddie Williams of New Orleans, Louisiana and his mother was Caroline Martin, although born in Lafayette, Louisiana, spent most of her life in New Orleans. Both preceded their son in death.

Warren began his military service soon after graduating high school and served in World War II as an Army soldier. Upon his return, he studied electronics and started a small business in electronic repair. He was an avid checker player who attained instructor status resulting in numerous awards. His accomplishments include, but are not limited to induction into the International Checker Hall of Fame, Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding and dedicated service as President of the International Checkers Society, and received one of few appreciation plaques that bear the expression “We love you,” from members of the American Checkers Association.

Warren relocated to Lafayette, Louisiana, first residing with niece and nephew Freddie and Dianne Allen for a time after Hurricane Katrina. In loving demand, he spent his remaining years with his niece Sherrol Lyons and her partner Adam Lewis, who became his primary caregiver. He was part of a large family too numerous to name – yet, he loved each and every one as they loved him.
