Herman
1878 - 1915
H. E. (Jean) Adams met instant death about three o'clock Sunday morning just a short distance from the N. O. G. N. depot when he stepped from the switch to the main track, just in time to be struck by a switch engine which was backing. His skull was badly crushed, both the right leg and arm broken, and he sustained other less serious cuts and bruises. The body was dragged about 100 feet before the engine could be brought to a stop. When crew members reached his side, life was [extinct].
Jean Adams, as he was best known to almost everyone in Bogalusa, was born and raised in this city. He was 37 years of age and the son of Mrs. N. E. Adams, who made her home with the unfortunate man. He is survived by a widow and five children, the oldest being 13 years and the youngest 6 years. Six brothers and sisters, all residents of Washington parish survive him. He resided in Adamstown, a part of the city which was named after his father.
The funeral services were held Monday afternoon and burial was in the Adams Cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Brakefield, of the Baptist church, of which the deceased was a member. The services were largely attended.
