Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 10 am in Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Donald L. "Don" Broussard, 77, who passed away on September 24, 2010 in Jacksonville, Florida. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
The Reverend Bill Melancon, Pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church in Carencro, will officiate the ceremony.
A native of Gueydan and longtime resident of Lafayette, Don had lived in St. Marys, Georgia for the past two years. He was born on January 16, 1933 to Orlane and Minnie Broussard. He attended Gueydan High School and Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) before graduating from Loyola School of Law in 1970. Don worked as an attorney for many years before retiring, and was a member of the Louisiana Bar Association. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his daughter, Dawn "Angel" Broussard of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; four sons, Kirk Broussard of Lake Charles, Donald Broussard of Dunedin, Florida, Lane Broussard of St. Marys, Georgia, and Ross Broussard of Jacksonville, Florida; one sister, Rose Marie Jolley of Lafayette, and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Tankersley Broussard, his parents Orlane and Minnie T. Broussard, and three sisters: Lucy Bishop, Lou Jane Bishop, and Wynona Myers.
The family requests that visitation be held Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 5-9 pm and resume Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 8 am until time of services. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and M D Anderson Hospital.
