John Camp enlisted May 13, 1862, in Monroe, Louisiana. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after he was captured at Bayou Teche, Port Hudson, Louisiana on April 14, 1863. On May 5, 1863, he was paroled at Prophet's Island below Port Hudson. The Company Muster Roll for July - August 1863 showed his status as Prisoner on Parole.
