December 30, 1935 - October 12, 2013
Thomas Franklin “Tommy” Smith, age 77 of Spearsville, LA passed from this life on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at his home in Spearsville. He was born on December 30, 1935 in Lillie, LA to the late James J. Smith SR and Margaret Mae (Tucker) Smith. Tommy was a member of Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church near Spearsville. Tommy loved singing and playing gospel music on the guitar, but could play numerous other instruments. Tommy was always whistling and loved to tinker around with fixing things.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Smith; two brothers, Lester Smith and Troy Smith; three sisters, Bessie Smith, Nezie Smith and Lizzie Bell Pennington.
Those left to cherish his memory include; his wife, Sue Smith of Spearsville; one daughter, Carolyn Kitchen; two sons, Alvin Smith and Carl Smith, all of Freeport, TX; three grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Allen Lee Smith and Sarah Smith, all of Freeport, TX; two step daughters, Joey Amaya of Bernice, LA and Carolyn Johnson of Diamond Head, Mississippi; one stepson, Pat Patton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; step grandchildren, Jessica McLelland, Damian Patton and Brett Smith, all of Bernice, Nikki Canterberry of Diamond Head, MS, Taylor Patton of Texas, Arrianna Patton of Oklahoma, Brent Smith of Georgia, currently serving in Korea, Kevin Smith, of the Philippines, Britton Smith of North Carolina and two great grandchildren; one brother, James J. Smith JR of Spearsville.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church, with Bro. Adam Holloway and Bro. Allen Grimmett officiating. Burial will follow in Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado and Junction City.
