Tom J. Smith, 84, of Spearsville, La., died Thursday night in an Alexandria, La., hospital after a long illness. Born Oct. 5, 1881, in Union County, he was the son of Elder Woody K. and Mahala Head Smith. He was a member of the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church and was a retired farmer. Survivors include three sons, Clifton B. Smith and Graydon R. Smith, both of Minden, La., and Frank Smith of Monroe, La.; two daughters, Mrs. Cisco Barron of Spearsville and Mrs. Glen Haynes of Junction City; three brothers, Harmon Smith and John Lee Smith, both of Spearsville, and Woody C. Smith of El Dorado; three sisters, Mrs. J. H. Williams of Dubach, La., and Mrs. Minor Ogden, Sr., and Mrs. Irene Risinger, both of Spearsville; 12 children and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church at Spearsville with Elder W. W. Hudson and Elder R. W. Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in the Spearsville Cemetery by Pratt Funeral Home. The body will be carried to the home Friday night. Pallbearers will be Glover Rockett, Rudolph Barron, Terry Futch, Frankie Futch, H. P. Williamson, and George Harmon Smith. (El Dorado Times - March 11, 1966)
