He was born in Union County, AR to Ernest and Sue Ogden Smith and grew up in the Pleasant Grove Community. He was known as "Pete" to his family and friends and "Junior" at the chemical plant in El Dorado where he worked for 42 years. Hunting and fishing were two of Mr. Smith's favorite pass times throughout his life. He also loved all sports both as a player and as a spectator. One of the greatest joys was coaching Little League Baseball at the El Dorado Boys' Club when Cecil Kellum and Mr. Waddell were there. He moved his family from EL Dorado to Spearsville, even though it meant a longer commute to his job, to give his children a chance to play the sport not offered at their previous school. Traveling across the United States was another source of enjoyment with the Great Smokey Mountain National Park being a favorite destination. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church and was a diligent daily Bible reader. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Sue Ogden Snith; sister, Geneva Smith; brother, Nile Smith and wife Oleta; and brother-in-law, Jessie Lee Norris. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Meada Post Smith of Spearsville; daughter, Kaye Risinger of West Monroe; son, James F. Smith and wife Susan of Spearsville; son, Bro. Connie M. Smith and wife Linda of Dubach; son, Terry Kent Smith of SPearsville; sister, Claudia Norris of EL Dorado; 5 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great, great grandchild. Serving as pallbearers will be Todd Risinger, Scott Risinger, Jamie Risinger, John Risinger, Mickey Post, and Richard Post. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canaan Baptist Church or Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery fund, 502 Canaan Church Rd., Spearsville, LA 71277. THe family extends heartfelt thanks to Mr. Smith's caregivers: Nicole, Michelle, Margaret; Louise Denton with Council on Aging; the staffs of United Home Health, Comfort Care Hospice, and Arbor Lake Nursing Home.
