Durwin "Shorty" Bond, 79, a native and resident of Franklinton and a longtime resident of California, died Sunday at 3 p.m. in Franklinton. He was a retired plumber, a veteran of World War II U.S. Army
Air Corps., and was a member of the Bolivar Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Pam Bond of Lakeside, CA; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue and John Roudebush of Fortuna, CA; four grandchildren, Christine Boozel, Shanna Buys, Haley and Lesley Roudebush; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Woodson Bond of
Franklinton, Douglas Bond of Sulphur, La, C.F. "Charlie" Bond of Wilmer, and Jewel Bond Jr. of Denham Springs; two sisters, Irma B. Pettit of Franklinton and Nelda B. Hair of Bogalusa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorcas Bond; parents, Jewel and Isabel Penny Bond; and sister, Yuvonne Edwards.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. today and will continue after 9 a.m. tomorrow until time of funeral service, to be conducted from the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dan Bond and the Rev. Lonnell Johnson will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Ellis Cemetery in Franklinton.
Crain Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
