June 27, 1936 - January 10, 2017
Joan Elaine Tucker (nee Williams) of West Monroe, Louisiana passed on to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Joan was not always a Louisiana girl. Her journey through this life started in San Antonio, Texas on June 27, 1936, the only child of John Edward Williams and Margaret Black Williams. She was and is the Yellow Rose of Texas, handpicked by Airman First Class Bill Tucker of Farmerville, Louisiana, who was stationed in San Antonio at the time. After sweeping her off her feet, Joan and Bill married on March 15, 1958 and made their home back in Louisiana. This was a true love story that would surpass all others. There was never an argument, how could one argue with an Angel?
Joan was the proud mother of two children, Terry Tucker (Sandra) of Conway, AR and Tammy Tucker Dunn of West Monroe, LA and grandmother of 4 lights of her life, Jordan Tucker (Mindy) of Jonesboro, AR, Michael Tucker of Russellville, AR, Joseph Tucker Johnston and Victoria “Tori” Dunn of West Monroe, LA.
This was her life’s work, taking care of her two children, her grandchildren and “her Bill”. Joan was also the Sunshine Chairman of the Magdalene Sunday School Class prior to her illness. This was an apt description as there was nothing about her that did not shine.
She also was very active in the Operation Christmas Child program through Samaritan’s Purse. She loved getting those shoe boxes ready for the children so they could know the love of God. She was frequently known as Pollyanna as her heart was so very pure, she only saw the best in everybody.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Tucker will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Fair Park Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA with Reverend Waymond Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Farmerville, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
Pallbearers will be Tucker Johnston, Jordan Tucker, Michael Tucker, Todd Dunn, Robert Greer, Ron Nix and Tim Hammett.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Encouragers Sunday School Class at Fair Park Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until service time on Thursday at the Chapel at Fair Park Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Operation Christmas Child – SamaritansPurse.org
