Green Walker enlisted on March 15, 1862, in Minden, Louisiana. His name appeared on a list of killed, wounded and missing in Ewell’s Division for August 22, 1862, to September 20, 1862. The record indicated he was wounded at Bristow Station on August 27, 1862. After returning to duty, he remained present until May 9, 1864, when he was shot through the right knee in Spotsylvania, Virginia. The record indicated an operation was conducted in the field at which point his right leg was amputated at the middle of his thigh. The Company Muster Roll for April 30 – August 31, 1864, showed he had been captured on May 10, 1864. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War captured at Spotsylvania, Virginia on May 9, 1864. On May 23, 1864, his name also appeared on a report as a Prisoner of War in the hospital at Fredericksburg, Virginia. The report indicated he was wounded and taken off the field of battle at Old Wilderness Tavern, Virginia. A medical card indicated that on August 5, 1864, he was admitted to Lincoln U.S.A. General Hospital, Washington D.C. with a gun shot wound he had received on May 9, 1864. The record indicated his right leg had been amputated at mid-thigh. On October 20, 1864, he was transferred to the Old Capitol Prison, Washington, D.C. On December 16, 1864, he was transferred from the Old Capitol Prison to Elmira, New York, arriving on December 17, 1864. On February 9, 1865, he was paroled at Elmira, New York, and sent to James River for exchange. On March 24, 1865, his name appeared on record as permanently disabled in a skirmish on May 9, 1864, near Petersburg, Virginia. On April 3, 1865, his name appeared on Roll of Prisoners of War as being captured in the hospital at Richmond, Virginia.
