He enlisted May 9, 1862 at Monroe, Louisiana. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after he was captured on July 4, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. His name appeared on a List of Officers And Men of the 31st Regiment who reported in camp for exchange in Vienna, Louisiana on March 29, 1864.
