SHREVEPORT, LA- Lou passed peacefully from this life the afternoon of December 22, 2012, after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers at Emeritus Senior Living during the last days of her life. Lou was born in Bogata, Texas, January 5, 1929. She married Isaac, her childhood sweetheart, in 1944 in Clarksville, Texas. They moved to Shreveport in 1946 where they have lived the remainder of her life. She graduated in 1946 from Dimple High School in Dimple, Texas, and in 1976 from Centenary College where she earned in A. S. in Business Administration and Accounting.
Lou spent an active life in both work and play. After moving to Shreveport, she worked for a short time at Tom Allen Paint Company and at J. C. Penney. Most of her working career was at Arkansas Fuel Oil, Cities Service Oil Company from which she retired as Personnel Director and at McCord Oil Company from which she retired in 2008. Lou was both a Certified Professional Secretary and a Notary Public.
Lou was a member of the Louisiana Association of Certified Professional Secretaries, the Shreveport Chapter of the National Association of Accountants, Centenary Women's Club, Alpha Chi National Honor Society of Centenary College, charter member of the SREBO Chapter of the American Business Women's Association, Melku Onwego Club, and the Shreveport Y. W. C. A.
Lou enjoyed travel, sewing, reading, water skiing, camping, playing bridge, and doing crafts of all kinds. But, most of all, she loved being Mimi to her grandson and highlight of her life, Trey.
Lou is survived by her husband Isaac Mitchell, her son, Isaac Mitchell, Jr. (Chris) and his wife Bettye (Be), and her grandson, Isaac Mitchell, III (Trey). Lou is also survived by her twin sister Sara Sue Hansen; her brother-in-law Huey B. Mitchell, Jr., and wife Sue; and her sister-in-law Evelyn Mitchell Roberts and husband, Lonnie Roberts, Jr. She was preceded in death by her father John Dewey Adolphus Roberts, her mother Emma Lee Roberson, her sister Byrdie Mable Ray, and her brother John William Roberts.
Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Southside, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, LA from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Tuesday, December 25, 2012. The funeral service will be Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at 12:00 noon at Rose-Neath Southside. Burial will follow at Forest Park - West.
