A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Martha Smith, 89, who passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016. The Reverend Duane Petersen, Associate Rector of Episcopal Church of the Ascension, will officiate the funeral ceremony. Inurnment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Martha is survived by two sons, Michael Wayne Reed and his wife Betty of Lake Charles, and Monty L. Reed and his wife Diane of Lafayette; one granddaughter, Kelli Fontenot and her husband Billy of Lake Charles; one great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Reed of Lake Charles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ella and Rowan Ready; her first husband, W.C. Reed; her second husband, Dennis Smith; and one granddaughter, Becky Reed.

A native of Monticello, MS and 35-year resident of Lafayette, LA, Martha enjoyed ballroom dancing in her free time. She was the business manager of Episcopal Church of the Ascension for 33 years, and a longtime member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.

Visitation hours will be observed on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Our Lady of Lourdes 5th floor nursing staff and social workers, and The Carpenter House administrative staff and nurses.
