Senior Chief Petty Officer Sidney Smith, Jr, 36, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the University of Florida Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.

Sidney was born March 10, 1972 to Sidney, Sr and Tracey Smith. He was raised by his family in Lafayette, Louisiana and graduated from Carencro High School in May of 1990. Sidney enlisted in the United States Navy on September 5, 1990 and completed basic training November of 1990. During his 18 years of faithful and distinguished service he accumulated over 3300 mishap free flight hours as an Aviation Warfare Systems Operator onboard the Lockheed P-3 Orion Aircraft. He was a veteran of the Cold War, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Kosovo Campaign, Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. His personal awards include: Two Air Medals, Three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, as well as various Campaign and Unit Awards. He received a BA Degree in Psychology at Columbia University in May 2006.

Sidney leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 17 years, Sonia Smith, son, Sidney Smith, III and a daughter, Trinity J Smith; his devoted parents, Sidney, Sr and Tracey C Smith; sister, Tiffany S (Michael Sr) Arceneaux; one sister-in-law Angela P Benoit; brother-in-law Paul D. Wiltz Jr; grandparents, Joseph, Sr and Margaret Chaisson; three aunts, Roxanne (Wendell) Chaisson, Sylvia (Marcelle) Sampey and Laura (Hubert) Johnson; uncles, Joseph (Pam) Chaisson, Markus Chaisson, Vincent (Gail) Smith, and Adam (Cathy) August; nephews, Michael, Jr, Mason J, Myles J Arceneaux, and Cole and Landon Wiltz; three nieces Vanity D., Paige P Williams and Collin Wiltz; and a host of other relatives and friends.*Sidney was preceded in death by his grandparents Lawrence Smith, Juliet Burney, great grandmother Mary Alexander and mother-in-law, Ida M Wiltz.

Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery with full Military Honors.
