Lionel was born in Shreveport, LA on September 2, 1917, and passed away June 3, 2018. He graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1934. Lionel began working for Louisiana Paper Company at the young age of 17 and went on to become Chairman of the Board of CMI (formerly Louisiana Paper Co) in 1978. He retired from that position in 1983 and founded the Paper Shack and Party Store. Up until his death, he was still active in helping run that business and never gave up visiting the store and his private office.

Lionel enlisted in the United States Army on December 8, 1941 and served 4 years as a Captain in Italy and North Africa. He was always happy to share his stories about the war with friends and family.

Lionel and Shirley Murov were married in 1946 and moved to Tyler, TX where they resided until 1978. While in Tyler, Lionel was very active in the community. He served as president of the Lion's Club, Temple Beth El and Sales Executives. Lionel achieved his 33rd Mason Degree and was active in the local chapter. Lionel also served as Chairman of the National Trade Paper Association. In 1978, he and Shirley returned to their home in Shreveport. He was also a member of the downtown Shreveport Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley Murov Eltis and his parents Ethel and Benjamin Eltis. He is survived by his daughter Sandra Eltis Weiss and husband Mel from Atlanta, GA; son Brian Murov Eltis and wife Cindy from Dallas, TX; grandchildren Daniel Weiss and wife Tracy, Michael Weiss and wife Kate, Ashley Grossfeld and husband Marc, Blake Eltis, Lindsay Hochschuler and husband Josh, Drew Eltis and wife Miriam; great-grandchildren Mason and Seth Weiss, Jacob, Jonathan and Sarah Grossfeld, Jonah, Caleb, Liam and Hannah Hochschuler, Mia Eltis; and sister-in-law, Mrs. Harold Murov.

Lionel will be lovingly remembered by family friends and caregivers. He is remembered especially by devoted friends Abby and Wiley Robinson, T'Lisa and Buddy Savorie, and Ruth Brown. The family would also like to thank Dr. Alan Borne, Jeff Crane and his staff Tekiia Pipkin, Jean Thomas, Hazel Gibson, Janet Jackson, Ellen Johnson and Connie Meshell.

Honoring Lionel as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Daniel Weiss, Michael Weiss, Marc Grossfeld, Blake Eltis, Drew Eltis and Josh Hochschuler.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to B'nai Zion Congregation, 245 Southfield Rd, Shreveport, LA 71105 or the charity of donor's choice.
