FRANKLINTON — Joe Nielson Jr., 73, a resident of Franklinton, died yesterday at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington.
He was a retired dairyman and a member of Stateline United Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Sumrall Nielson of Franklinton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Lerue and Annette Nielson, Ronnie and Joan Nielson, and Gary and Carel Nielson, all of Franklinton; his mother, Susie Hill Nielson of Franklinton; one brother, Willie J. Nielson of Franklinton; five sisters, Louise N. Magee, Elouise N. Robertson, Beatrice N. Brumfield, Carolyn Nielson and Anita Faye Dykes, all of Franklinton; nine grandchildren, Danny and Suzzette Nielson, Vickie and Jeff Magee, Kim Nielson, Rhonda and Joe Jacobs, Christopher and Pamela Nielson, Grant and Lynnette Nielson, and Matthew and Bridgette Nielson; 11 great-grandchildren, Dustin and Dantelle Nielson, Kayla and Landon Magee, Darrell and Katie Burris, Brianna Adams, Brandyn and Hunter Jones, and Alexis and McKinley Nielson; and two step-grandchildren, Sara and Chance Broadway.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Nielson Sr.; and a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Mike Magee.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home today from 9 a.m. until the chapel funeral service at 2 p.m. The Revs. W.L. Tullos, Leon Hickman, Stanley Statham and Elder Don Jacobs will officiate. Burial will be in the Magee Cemetery at Lawrence Creek.

MYRTLE SUMRALL NIELSON, AGE 82

And a resident of the Hackley Community died at 7:00 pm Tuesday April 15, 2014 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She was a member of Stateline United Pentecostal Church and a former seamstress at the Haspel Garment Factory. Myrtle worked alongside her husband and family on their Dairy and operated Nielson's Grocery for many, many years. She enjoyed swinging on her front porch swing while visiting with her friends and family, often drinking coffee to pass the time. She was a good cook that, according to her family, made the "world's best biscuits" and she will be sadly missed by those that knew her best.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe A. Nielson, Jr., daughter and son in law JoAnn and Mike Magee, a son Lerue Nielson, her parents Zander Sumrall and Liddie Spears Sumrall and 5 brothers Murle Sumrall, James Sumrall, Doyle Sumrall, Darvin Sumrall, Zander Sumrall, Jr.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Wednesday April 16, 2014 from 6 pm until 9 pm and after 10 am on Thursday. A funeral service will be held at 4 pm Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. W.L. Tullos, Eld. Duane Ball, and Rev. Harold Gaddy officiating.
Burial will follow in the Magee Cemetery-Lawrence Creek.
