JOHNSON JR., DELOS R.
A worker's compensation judge for the state of Louisiana, he died Saturday, April 14, 2001, in Hattiesburg, Miss. He was 76 and a lifelong resident of Franklinton. He practiced law for 49 years. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, in both theaters of action. Visitation at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Franklinton, from 1 p.m. until religious services at 2 p.m. Monday, with Dr. Gene Richards and Richard Watts officiating. Burial in Ellis Cemetery . He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Leah Ott Johnson; his children, John Keller Johnson, Jeffrey Adrian Johnson and Caroline Griffith Johnson McKowen; and his grandchildren, Caroline Grace McKowen, Emmie Adele McKowen, Margaret Jess McKowen, Jonas Stark Johnson and Hannah Sophia Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delos R. Johnson Sr. and Pearl Griffith Johnson; and a brother, Andrew Griffith Johnson. Pallbearers will be David Dobie, Jeff Allen, John G. Johnson, Rick Richardson, James Richardson and Wayne Kuhn. Honorary pallbearers are R.W. Richardson, Johnnie Johnson, Andrew G. Johnson Jr., Haley M. Carter, Bobbie Carter, Richard Morgan, Roy Richard, Philip Smith; other members of the Franklinton Bar Association, Rusty Knight, Clayton Knight, Reggie Simmons, Kenny Gatewood, Judge Larry Green and Judge William Burris; and member of the men's Sunday school classes of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was a charter member and deacon of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he also served as director of music and Sunday school teacher. He served as president of the Franklinton Chamber of Commerce, Washington Parish Fair Association and Washington Parish Bar Association. He was a member of American Bar Association, National Probate Council, Rotary Club, Lions Club and the board of First State Bank. Crain Funeral Home, Franklinton, in charge of arrangements.
