Glorias G “Rusty” Brittain, 90, went to be with the Lord on September 4, 2020. She lived her life for Jesus Christ, and this gave her family unimaginable peace in her last days.
Rusty was born to the late Roy and Nora Goodfellow in Plaquemine, Louisiana on November 21, 1929. She was married to the late W.M. “Dock” Brittain for 58 years and they served God passionately and faithfully together. With him, she created a family legacy of love for the Lord and for people. She tended to everything with thoughtful care, from her cherished children and grandchildren, to the flowers in her garden. She faithfully took care of her ailing brothers, sisters, and husband in their last days and was so well taken care of in her last days by her caregivers Patty Linder, Sue, and Connie. The family would like to give a very special thanks to Patty for the excellent care and compassion given to Rusty and for always treating her like family.
Rusty loved the Lord with all her heart and her well-read Bible was always nearby. She was a member of Mooringsport Baptist Church for 59 years, where she faithfully served in so many capacities and cared for the needs of many in her community. She started her life on a riverboat on the Mississippi, and this early love for nature carried over into travelling the U.S. extensively with family and friends and marveling at God’s creation. Her love for the Lord and her family and friends was apparent in the way she served them with joy and kindness. She took care of her household well and created a warm atmosphere in her home where all were treated like her own family. She was a hard worker who took delight in the simple things in life, like working in her yard, making her grandchildren grilled cheese sandwiches and Kool-Aid, and visiting with loved ones. She spoke into others’ lives with wisdom and gentleness. As Proverbs 31 declares, her children and grandchildren rise up and call her blessed, and her late husband did as well.
Her husband, Dock Brittain, and sons, Charley, Bradley, and Tracy Brittain precede her in death. Left to cherish sweet memories are her daughter Toni Brittain McMillan and husband Rick, and her son Marty Brittain and wife, Patsy. Her grandchildren - Trey, Britt, Ashley, Emily, Andrea, Bethany, Caroline, and Will and their wives and husbands will also lovingly remember her. Her 14 great-grandchildren will hold fond memories of her as well.
Family visitation will be held at Mooringsport Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 1:00 pm. A Celebration service led by Pastor Brett Puckitt will immediately follow at 2:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Trey McMillan, Britt McMillan, Will Brittain, Rob Milby, Andy Bassham, Trey West, and Jake Lawler. The family would like to give ultimate thanks, praise, and glory to the Lord, who gave them Rusty for a wonderful example of what it is to love the Lord and live for Him.
