Woodmen of the World Emblem:
Woodmen of the World is a Fraternal Organization based in Omaha, Nebraska. It was founded in 1890 by Joseph Cullen Root who at the time was a member of the Freemasons and several other fraternal organizations. He began the Woodmen of the World after hearing a sermon about pioneer woodmen clearing the forest for their families. This Organization is committed to helping families who are seeking financial security and insurance protection. By doing this the organization is working to take care of families like their own in communities across the country.
The most well known physical legacies of this organization are the distinctive headstones erected in the shape of a tree stump. Many of these headstones can still be found in cemeteries across the nation.
