"Grandmother of Bossier City"
The first white woman to live in Shreveport, she gave birth to the first white child born in Shreveport. She married three times, 1) William Smith Bennett, 2) James Huntington Cane, and 3) G B Alexander. Mary and James Cane established a plantation named Elysian Groves on the east bank of the Red River. They opened the first store in Shreveport.
