From Louisiana Archives ~ Bates, John, Private, Sergeant Company B 4th Louisiana Infantry. Enlisted September 28, 1861, Pascagoula. Present on Rolls to April, 1863. Reduced to Ranks May 8, 1863. Appears on Rolls of Prisoners of War Captured at Big Black May 7, 1863 & Sent to Memphis, Tennessee, May 25, 1863.
