From Louisiana Archives ~ Bates, William, Private Companies B & D, 4th Battalion Louisiana Infantry. Enlisted June 4, 1861, Monroe, Louisiana. Present on Rolls to June, 1862. Roll for July & August 1862, "Transferred from Company B to Company D August 12, 1862." Appears on Roll of Prisoners of War Captured at Jackson, Mississippi, July --, 1863. Sent to Snyder's Bluff, Mississippi, July 30, 1863. Received at Camp Morton, Indiana, August 7, 1863.
