SHREVEPORT, LA- Graveside services for Evelyn Owen Hassell, 94, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Shiloh Community, LA. Officiating will be Dr. Larry Williams.

Evelyn was born on March 12, 1920 in Kerlin, AR to Luscius Elza and Agnes Mae Owen and passed away on June 4, 2014. She was a resident of Shreveport and a homemaker. A long-term member of Broadmoor Baptist Church; she had tremendous faith in God. She loved to read, and was a regular letter writer to the Shreveport Times newspaper. She had a life-long interest in education and returned to college in her 60's, concentrating on writing. She was a member of DAR.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Thomas Hassell. She is survived by son:, John M. Hassell and wife, Barbara of Carmel IN; daughters, Denise H. Ivey of Atlanta, GA, Johnette Hassell and husband, Mark Benard of New Orleans, LA; sister, Ethel Louise Owen Middlebrook of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Joseph Scott Nasello and wife, Kayla Sanford of Portland, OR, Geoff Grigsby and wife, Tanya of Portland, ME, Matt Grigsby of Asheville, NC; great-grandchildren, Lucca Sanford Nasello of Portland, OR, Ameika Grigsby of Asheville, NC and Grayson Grigsby of Portland, ME. The family is grateful to Dora Brackens and Bertha Nesbitt who were long-term loving care-givers.
