HOMER, LA- A Service of Witness to the
Resurrection giving thanks for the life of Margaret Gray Ford Gladney will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, September 23, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church, Homer, LA. Mrs. Gladney died in her home on Friday, September 21. She and her husband Dr. James F. Gladney, Jr., celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on August 12, 2007. Margaret Gladney was born January 5, 1918, in Homer, the oldest daughter of Darden and Arabella Gray Ford. After graduating from Homer High School in 1934, she attended Judson College and graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Latin and Business in 1938. She did graduate work at The University of Texas in Austin.
Mrs. Gladney was a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church where she served as choir member, organist, Sunday School teacher, president and Bible study leader of Presbyterian Women many times, In 1990 she was named Woman of the Year by the Women's Department Club. She was a member of the Homer Hospital Guild, the Garden Club, the Homemakers Club, and the Mildred Bevell Music Club.
Dr. and Mrs. Gladney have seven children: Patricia Gladney Holland, Austin, TX; Dr. Margaret Rose Gladney, Fernandino Beach, FL; Cynthia Gladney Steele,
Homer, LA; Dr. John Davidson Gladney, Shreveport, LA; Darden Ford Gladney,
Elizabeth Camille Gladney Abshire, James Patrick Gladney, all of Homer; twelve grandchildren: Laurel Holland, George Scott Holland, Kirk Gladney Holland, Grace Margaret Holland, Davidson Macdonald Steele, Teresa Diane Hughes, Kelly Elizabeth Gladney, James Andrew Abshire, Joseph Benjamin Abshire, Samuel Patrick Abshire, Christina Camille Gladney, Madalene Rose Gladney and three great-grandchildren: Taylor Gladney Holland, Sofia Holland Freed and Zachary Holland Freed.
The family expresses their continuing gratitude for the loving care of her
physician Dr. Sam Abshire, and her caregivers: Dorothy Malray, Ethel Allen,
Lovell Stevens, Virginia Robinson, Jessie Ruth Cooper and Mary Ann Gilbert.
Pallbearers are her grandsons.
Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery immediately following the worship service.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Homer or the Ford Museum. Rose-Neath Funeral Home Homer, La 318-927-6110
