Maxine (obit) CROW GILLUM

Farmerville (Farmerville) Cemetery
Union County,
Louisiana

September 5, 1917 - January 23, 2008

Funeral service for Maxine Crow Gillum, 90, of Farmerville, was held at 10 am January 25 at the First Baptist Church in Farmerville. Officiating was Rev Kurt Auger and Rev Roger Johnson. Interment followed in Farmerville City Cemetery.
Maxine Crow Gillum was preceded in death her parents Emmett Crow and Donnie Buckley Crow; husband J D Gillum, son Randy Gillum and brothers Billy Crow and Bobby Crow.
Maxine Crow was first and foremost a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to all who were not part of her life. She shared not only her love but also wisdom gained throughout her life’s experiences.
Maxine was a member of the First Baptist Church thereby instilling in each of her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren a very strong faith. Maxine’s Sunday school class and friends of her church family continued until her death to shower her with love and great affection.
Maxine’s 33 years of employment as assistant librarian gave her many friends of all ages. She loved working with the Children’s Story Hour, and as evidenced in the years’ after retirement those small ones called on her many times with stories of their growth, aspirations and thanks for the impact she had on their life. Maxine was eternally appreciative to Agnes Harris, Helen Reeves and Dot Killen for the opportunities afforded her through their guidance, and the many of friends she worked with through the years, especially Edna Liggin, Irene Barron, Mary Sawyer and Thalia Williams, and Albert Allen.
The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Healthcare South, Union General ER and hospital staff for tender care and respect given her and her family and friends in the final hours of her stay. We wish also to thank the staff at Timberlake Nursing Home for help create for mother an atmosphere of tender and loving care during the final month of her life. Mother found there also friends of years gone by to brighten her days.
We thank Dr. Charles Morgan for the care he has given her through the many past years and his staff who always met her with a smile and tender care. We can never repay the kindness and care Dr. Sanson gave mother in the final several weeks of her life. He always found time to meet with the family, answer our concerns and give us advice needed as mother’s health continued to decline.
We give special thanks to Robert Allen who was always available to meet mother’s needs, those needs included many visits just to sit and solve the world’s problem, to fill the lonely hours at the end of the day or just to be there for her. Robert became the son she missed and needed so in the years of an ageing parent.
Last but not least we also thank the church families of First United Methodist Church and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for many acts of kindness and love you have given mother and us. Very special thanks to Bro. Johnny Hankins, Father Nicholas Omyach and Bro. David Martin for their visits, prayers and love.
