Jesse Lee Slaughter, of 624 Robinson St., died late Monday afternoon in a local hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in junction City, he was the son of Joe and Maggie Adams Slaughter. A lifelong resident of Union County, Mr. Slaughter had been owner and operator of the Slaughter House for 20 years. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge of Junction City, and the Lions Club of which he had served as president. He was a past employe of Lion Oil Co. and Arkansas Power and Light Co. Mr. Slaughter was active in Red Cross and Boy Scout work. He was the recipient of the Silver Beaver, one of the highest achievements awarded in Boy Scouts. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bertha Gulley Slaughter of El Dorado; one daughter, Mrs. J. R. Allen, Cedar Falls, Iowa; one grandson, and one brother, Floyd Slaughter, Junction City. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Methodist Church with Dr. Alvin Murray officiating. Interment will follow in the Farmerville Cemetery in Farmerville, La., under the direction of Young's. Active pallbearers will be Charles Dunlap, Andy Ritger, Maurice Griffin, Andy Stafford, Dee Cherry, Paul Hyde, Eugene Peek and Lloyd Puryear. Honorary pallbearers will be G. P. Gammill, Jimmy Fernald, Hastings Jones, S. M. Hamilton, J. Helms, James M. Williams and Corbin W. McKinnon. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour before service time. Memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church. (El Dorado Times - November 15, 1967)
