From Louisiana Archives ~ Courtney, William (also Cortney, Wm J; Cartney, Wm J), Private Company F 16th Louisiana Infantry. Enlisted December 29, 1861, Chalmette. Roll for January & February, 1862, Absent at home, sick. Mustered for unexpired term for 12 months. Present on Roll for May & June, 1862. Roll for July 1 - November 1, 1862, Absent in interior Hospital. Present on all Rolls, January, 1863 - October 1863. Captured at Missionary Ridge, November 25, 1863. Received at Louisville, Kentucky, December 5, 1863, for exchange from Nashville, Tennessee. Forward to Rock Island Prison, Illinois, December 6, 1863. Paroled at Rock Island Barracks & transferred for exchange March 6, 1865. Received at Boulware's & Cox's Wharves, James River, Virginia, March 10 - 12, 1865, & exchanged.
