Mary Rita Roberts Methvin, 97, was born on July 6, 1919 in Castor, LA. She was the eighth of nine children born to Calvin Alonzo Roberts and Minnie Tallulah Posey Roberts. Her siblings were Mirth Alonzo Roberts, Kents Earl Roberts, Carmen Alice Elvir, Fay Everett Roberts, Cortez Karice Bledsoe, Joseph Edward Roberts and Bettye Bond Wenner. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death.

After graduating from Campti High School and attending The Normal in Natchitoches, she married the love of her life, Percy V. Methvin, on February 4, 1939. They were married 70 years. Percy preceded her in death in 2008.

Their five children are her survivors: Jerry Laine Methvin (Louise) of Shreveport, LA, Linda Fay Walker (Jim) of Goldonna, LA, Cynthia Sue Edwards (Robert) of Shreveport, LA, Rebecca Jo Saggiotes (Art) of Bluffton, SC and Carmen Alice Hutches (Don) of Shreveport, LA.

She was "Grandmother" to her 13 grandchildren: Julie Juneau (Mitch) of Pearland, TX, Alice Normand (Neill) of Shreveport, LA, Mary Ellen Cowser (Danny) of Frisco, TX, Bruce Allen Goins of Youngstown, Ohio, Kenneth Goins (Jennifer) of Winnfield , LA, Kyle Edwards (Jen) of Houston, TX, Jill Hoffman (Andrew) of Alexandria, VA, Ryan Edwards of Mooringsport, LA, Adam Edwards of Bossier City, LA, Katie Boling (B.J.) of McKinney, TX, Chris Saggiotes of Pearland, TX, Holly Tujague (Steve) of Madisonville, LA and Brooke Psilos (Matt) of Clovis, NM.

Also surviving Mary Rita are her 32 great- grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Percy and Rita made their home in Mooringsport, LA for over 60 years. Providing a loving home for their children and grandchildren was always their primary goal. Sewing for her daughters, cooking for her family, working in her yard, reading, bringing her children up in her Catholic faith, and participating in community and civic organizations were important parts of her life. Her endless patience and consistent love sustained all of us.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Pilgrim Manor Guest Care in Bossier City, LA for their care of Mother over the past 5 years. It became her home and her caregivers were very important to her. We also wish to thank the Eucharistic Ministers from St. Jude's Catholic Church who faithfully ministered to her every Sunday morning. The St. Pius X Ladies Guild also ministered to her with their cards, gifts and visits through these years. She was so grateful for each kindness shown to her.

A very special thank you is extended to Earline Riggs, a resident at Pilgrim Manor. Earline watched out for our mother day and night. She became a loving friend to her and all of us.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandson: Kenneth Goins, Kyle Edwards, Ryan Edwards, Adam Edwards, Chris Saggiotes and Jason Juneau. Honorary pallbearer: Bruce Goins

Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church 4300 North Market Street, Shreveport, LA 71107.

Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband, too, praises her.

Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all.
