BLANCHARD, LA- Funeral services for Dessie Cobb Welch, 90, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Blanchard. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens in Mooringsport, LA. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2013 at the church. Officiating will be Rev. James Wallace and Dr. Doug Allen.
Dessie went to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, November 23, 2013. She was born in Pleasant Hill, LA on April 10, 1923 to John W. and Ida C. Cobb. She retired from Universal Oil Products after 30 years of service. Dessie was an active member of First Baptist Church in Blanchard. She served her Lord Jesus Christ with joy through the church.
Dessie was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 61 years, Evan E. Welch and was one of 19 children.
Dessie is survived by her son, Sam and wife, Leanne; daughter, Melinda Overstreet and husband, Ray; granddaughters, Emily and husband, SFC Tom Macy, and Laura Lee Welch; sister, Hazel Shafer; and many nieces and nephews that she loved as her own.
Pallbearers will be Ronny Welch, Richard Shafer, Ken Shafer, Charles Nelson, John Cobb, Don Humphrey, David Williams, and Calvin Macy. Honorary pallbearers will be SFC Tom Macy, Johnny Welch, Dave Maness, Glenn Sandifer, Fred Boynton, and Sonny Snell.
Our family wishes to thank the following friends and family for their love and devotion to our mother: Don Humphrey, Meg Welch, Virginia Stegall, Marjorie Bartlett, and Linda Dempsey. We also want to thank Dr. Germaine Cassiere for his loving care to both of our parents. We wish to also thank Marti Toney and Breanna Prim for their loving care and devotion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sewing Ministry, First Baptist Church of Blanchard, PO Box 65, Blanchard, LA, 71009.
