Debra Lynn Bond Singh, a gypsy on the run, decided to leave Earth at age 63 and beat Elon Musk to space and the universe beyond on August 31, 2021. She is survived by her three, equally-nomadic children, who made up the entirety of her world: Delanie Hutton, Aislinn Singh, and Evan Singh. Her siblings, Toni McDaniel and Dennis Bond. Her wide network of friends, nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren. Debra was a healer and a mother to everyone she met. Her business hours were 24/7. If you needed a place to do laundry, home-cooked meals, road buddy for a 2am Raising Cane's chicken run, or an ear to hear your side of story, she was your gal. That offer was extended to everyone. Her message, "No matter what or who you believe in, we all abide by the same universal laws: Love. Compassion. Do what's right. Be kind and help others without expectation of something in return. "A simple deed: Her spending extra time to wipe water off all the bathroom counters in Buc-ees so it wouldn't stain people's clothes. She did that tiny service everywhere, even when she was in a wheelchair. Debra lived a full-life on Earth and experienced everything she could.
She go-go danced and donated the money to help a family with a down payment on their house. Learned ballet. Competitively disco danced and sang. Was frugal and could feed 20 people or more off $3.50. Held abused women's help groups at the YMCA. Organized women's rights protests (always have an exit strategy when things get hairy). Experimented. Trained with Monks and meditated for a month to cleanse her soul. Avid baker and made the best taco salad. We always had fresh baked bread and we always ate our veggies. You also may have unknowingly met her from the psychic phone line at $0.99 per minute and then the adult phone line at $1.99 per minute. She also worked as a social worker for abused children and this was work she felt passionate about. Helped with exorcisms. Face-planted in front of Kris Kristofferson as an extra in the 1976 'A Star is Born'. (She got fired but said his beauty was worth it.) She would leave bags of spare change in neighbors mailboxes who were struggling even though we didn't have much ourselves. Made us decide nightly between her 90s Richard Simmons exercise video "Sweatin' through the Oldies" Vol. 1 , 2 or 3 or guided Tai Chi before bed. 9 out of 10 we were dancing with Richard. Studied psychology and philosophy. Had us all do Tree Meditation. Taught us to respect Mother Earth and pick up your trash. If you need a bulletproof excuse, always use diarrhea because no one questions it. Spoke Klingon and French. Believed there was all kinds of magic (fairies, gnomes, etc) in this world because without it, Earth would be boring. She would highly recommend authors Steven King and Anne Rice. For music it's Fleetwood Mac, Bee Gees, Prince, and Bruno Mars. If you need a feel-good movie, her favorite was Last Holiday with Queen Latifah. Her favorite video games were Donkey Kong, Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Earthbound.
She was powerful, smart, compassionate, strong, funny, open-minded, sassy and loved hard. Her body took a beating because she actually lived and experienced life. That is her message: LIVE and seize today! She stood up for what she believed in and taught us to fight for what's right. Love but don't be taken advantage of. Don't hold on too tightly to people or you'll suffocate them, metaphorically and physically. Be independent but lean on others when needed. Wherever you are, have an exit strategy because crazy things happen all the time. Mom, you have given so much and asked for so little in return. Thank you for always being there for us, for teaching us, listening to us, helping and forgiving us, loving us, and always, always paving the way for us. We will work hard to reach the standard you set. Live long and prosper on your trip throughout the universe. You were simply magnificent. Gronkuh.
Viewings will be held at Gorsulowsky Funeral Home in Vivian on Saturday, September 4th from 8:30am to 10am. The funeral will begin at 10am. Burial in Mooringsport Memorial Gardens Cemetary will follow.
