Soon after graduating high school she went to work as a legal secretary, and then as a clerk working in various capacities. She married Ted C. Youngblood, Sr. in June, 1950, in Minden, and they eventually became residents of Shreveport during the 1950s. Betty & Ted Sr. shared 64 years together as husband and wife. She was the mother to three children, and she treasured her family. While continuing to work, and raising children during the 1970's she continued her education. She graduated in December, 1974 with an Associate Degree, and began her career as a nurse. Desiring to further her education she attended Northwestern State University, graduating in December, 1978, with a BS Degree in Nursing. She continued to work within the nursing profession in the Shreveport area until the early 1990s at which time she retired early due to illness. Betty was a decade's long member of Springs of Grace Baptist Church, formerly Sunset Acres Baptist Church, in Shreveport. She treasured her faith as she treasured her family. Preceded in death by father, Willie Roy Ouzts, Sr., mother, Isabella H. Ouzts, brother, Ernest Wray Ouzts, and brother, John M. Ouzts. Survived by husband, Ted C. Youngblood, Sr., daughter, Lynn Woodall, son, Ted C. Youngblood, Jr., son, Richard G. Youngblood, brother, Willie Roy Ouzts, Jr., sister, Evelyn McFarland, sister, Anita Williams, four granddaughters, and numerous great-grandchildren. Betty was a caring, loving, and wise soul, as was evident in the way she cared for others. She enjoyed fishing, teaching Sunday School classes, sewing, and cooking meals for family at holiday gatherings. She touched many lives in a positive and selfless manner. She battled illness for the last several years of her life but her suffering is now over. May she now rest in peace. The Youngblood family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff, and to the many members of Springs of Grace Baptist Church for the loving support they have provided on Betty's behalf over the course of the past several months.
