SHREVEPORT, LA-Gladys Reynolds was born January 18, 1933 in Mountainburg, Arkansas and died in Shreveport on Mother's Day, May 12, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was suffering but now is in the hands of Jesus. It was only fitting that God took her home on Mother's Day. She lived her life for her family and will be forever remembered as "Grandmother". Gladys was strong and kind and loved by everyone fortunate enough to know her. She died the way she lived, putting her family first.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Finley Shaw and Anna Bell Ross Shaw; her brothers Albert Shaw, Jr. and Charles W. Shaw; her sister, Lou Lundy; and her daughter-in-law, Janie Robinson. Gladys is survived by her devoted husband of fifty-seven years, John Paul Reynolds; her brothers, Robert Ross, Sr. and Jay Shaw; her sisters, Bert Patelis and Bet Oxley; her daughters, Carol Reynolds Buckley and husband, Rick Buckley; Kathy Reynolds Gravel and husband, Louis Gravel; Judith Reynolds Steglich and husband, Greg Steglich; and Stephanie Reynolds Burkhead and husband, Greg Burkhead; her sons, John Stephen Reynolds and his fiancé, Cathy Thomas; and Douglas Glenn Reynolds and his wife, Julie Reynolds. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored; Kara Lanning, Sean Buckley, Matthew Starr, Emmie Robinson, Andrew Starr, Sarah Starr, Megan Lange, Chad Buckley, Mollie Reynolds, Kevin Reynolds, Daisy Burkhead, Dakota Johnson, Raynie Lanning, Aubrey Starr, John Hayes Lanning, Bryce Lange, Annabelle Jane Lanning, Blake Johnson, Gracelyn Johnson, and Alana Johnson.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2013. A memorial service honoring Gladys' life will be held Friday, May 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Shreveport. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport. Pallbearers will be Sean Buckley, Matthew Starr, Andrew Starr, Chad Buckley, Kevin Reynolds, Rick Buckley, Louis Gravel, Greg Steglich, Greg Burkhead, and Darl Lanning.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Garden Park, especially Jackie and Sarah, who cared for their mother as if she was their own. And a special thanks to Ellen at Grace Home who saw to it that she was at peace in her final days.
The family suggests donations be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Youth Group or Senior Adult Choir, 5850 Buncombe Road, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71129, or to Christus Schumpert Grace Home, One Saint Mary Place, Shreveport, Louisiana 71101.
Don't worry, Mother. We'll take care of Daddy.
