Shreveport, LA – Carolyn Lapleau Kalmbach, 69, passed away at her home surrounded by her son and daughter on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, after a brief illness. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16th, at Osborn Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012, at First United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Pat Day, of First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave.
Mrs. Kalmbach was born on March 16, 1942, in Crowley, Louisiana and was a resident of Shreveport, LA. She taught Adult Education at VoTech and Caddo Parish Correctional and was the Adult Education Louisiana Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Kalmbach held multiple Masters including Education devoting her life to teaching Adult Education (GED Classes) believing in individuals when no one else did. She loved to travel and spend time with her daughter, son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren who loved their “Mumsie”.
Mrs. Kalmbach was preceded in death by her husband, love of her life and best friend, Vernon Terrell Kalmbach, Sr.; her parents, Leon P. and Margaret Lapleau. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Kalmbach; son, Vernon Terrell Kalmbach, Jr. and his wife, Deana M. Kalmbach; grandchildren, Vernon Terrell “Trey” Kalmbach, III and Catherine Lapleau Kalmbach; her sister, Mrs. Phyllis L. Green, of Arlington, TX; and her beloved nieces, nephews and extended family. She is also survived by Father Richard “Dickey” Nowery, who was like a brother to her and an uncle to Mary Ellen and Terrell; and her dogs who were her constant companions.
Pallbearers will be Larry Allen, Houston Bosley, Lane Spano, Father Richard Nowery, Francis Terrell Kalmbach, Jr., W. M. Chase Kalmbach, III, John T. Kalmbach and Stephen Hamic.
Honorary pallbearers will be Causby Hamic, Jr., Charles L. Black, III, Roy E. Prestwood, Jason Pierson, Francis Kalmbach, Sr., Michael Barry Carmody and Paul Webb.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 279, Burns, TN 37029 or Literacy Partnership of NW Louisiana thru Goodwill Industries, 800 W. 70th Street, Shreveport, LA 71106.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Deborah Bosley, Flo Baremore, Agape Hospice, Mon Ami Care Service and friends too numerous to name.
