Nina Archer, age 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 15, 2023. Funeral services will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 10:00 AM with Dr. Tom Harrison officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday morning at the church prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow the service in Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Kent, Philip Kent, Ty Pendergrass, Bruce Bickham, Steve Craig, Don Usry, Ed Durham and Brian Caskey.
Nina was born on Monday, June 16,1930 in Minden, Louisiana, to her mother, Onie Ruth Stephens Holomon, and her father, William Edward Holomon. She attended schools in Dubberly and Minden with her close cousins, Jo Bryant McKinney, Ouida Bryant Johnson, Beverly Mauritzen Sandifer and her sister, Lennie Holomon Rhys. Nina graduated from Louisiana Tech University where she was a member of Phi Mu. She was married to Lowell Morrison and moved with him as they started a family and began his coaching career.
Nina spent many years in the public-school classroom principally at Southwood High School. From the opening day at Southwood, she supervised the yearbook publication until her retirement. Nina devoted much of her time to Broadmoor Baptist Church in the Prayer Room, Senior Adult activities and her Sunday School Class. Nina was a Bridge Life Master and enjoyed many hours at the Bridge House.
Nina is survived by her children, Greg Morrison and his wife, Grady, and Donna Kent and her husband, Creighton. She is survived by three grandchildren, David Kent (Charin) and Philip Kent (Lindsey) both of Dallas, TX and Sarah Kent of Charlottesville, VA and four great-grandchildren: Lily, Micah, Nate, and Ethan Kent. Her sister, Lennie Rhys, of Baton Rouge also survives her.
In 1994, Nina married E.L. (Blue) Archer and added to her family his daughter, Maggie Huey and her children, Don Usry and Cathy Kelly along with Don's children Don, Neal, and Chad. Blue predeceased her in June 2012.
The family would like to thank the caregivers who worked tirelessly to provide Nina comfort, compassion, and quality care: Tenisha Hongo, Barbara Washington, Charlesetta Johnson, Janice Hurks, Keyana Jones, Dyranisha Lemons and Kathy Williams.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broadmoor Baptist Church, 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA 71105.
