Shreveport, LA – Helen Virginia Crawford peacefully passed away, with her husband by her side, on the evening of Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the age of 87.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20th, at Osborn Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2012, in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home. Officiating will be Dr. Larry Williams. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.

Virginia was born August 17, 1924 in Hamburg, Arkansas to Dan and Eddie Lee Smith. She married her husband, Byron Eugene Crawford, August 15, 1948 in Wynne, Arkansas. They moved shortly thereafter to Fayetteville, Arkansas. In 1951, Virginia and Gene moved to Baton Rouge, where they started their family. In 1973 they moved to Houston for 20 years before making Shreveport their final home in 1993. Virginia made a career of being a loving housewife, mother, and eventually, grandmother and great-grandmother. Virginia had unfaltering faith and a beautiful sense of generosity and compassion for her family and others.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dora Lynn Jackson.

She is survived by her husband, Gene; one sister, Lois McGlasson of Brownwood, Texas; son, Dr. Byron Eugene Crawford, II and his wife, Carol of Metairie, Louisiana; son, Dr. Ronald Louis Crawford and his wife, Susan of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren, Elizabeth Watt and her husband, Andy of Newcastle, England, Scott Crawford and his wife, Holly of Chicago, Illinois, Andrew Crawford of New Orleans, Louisiana, Sarah Langham and her husband, Jay of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Jennifer Jarvis and her husband, Ray of Shreveport, Louisiana; great grandchildren, Madeline and Evangeline Watt, Braylin and Masyn Langham, and Taylor and Reece Jarvis; and many nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Crawford, Scott Crawford, Danny Jackson, Ray Jarvis, Jay Langham, David Sweet and Dan Yarbrough.

The family expresses a special appreciation to Dr. Seborn Woods and all of the people that have given her special care and attention at Live Oak North Pavilion and Willis-Knighton Hospice in these last months.

As an expression of sympathy, the family requests donations be made to the Baptist Children's Home of Monroe or a church or charity of one's choosing.
