Bette Jean Watson Irish, age 94, died December 26, 2021 at The Carpenter House Hospice in Shreveport, LA. She was born September 9, 1927 in Wildwood, Florida, the daughter of Mr. Maxie Candler Watson and Lula Belle (Shaw) Watson.
Bette graduated from Wildwood High School in Wildwood, FL. She studied at Mather School of Nursing, New Orleans, LA and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1948. During her nursing studies she also worked as an advertising model for the Pontchartrain Beach Amusement Park in New Orleans. She later moved to Shreveport and married Lynton Bert Irish on December 29, 1950. Throughout her residence in Shreveport, Bette was a member of numerous civic and charitable organizations. She was especially proud of her volunteer nursing work at the Veterans Hospital in Shreveport. Bette loved to cook, sew, and work in her garden. Bette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to all who she met. Bette was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Shreveport.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Lynton Bert Irish; and three sisters Martha Sue, Mary Louise, and Sara. Surviving are her son, Lynton Bert Irish, Jr. and his wife Leigh Ann, of Natalia, TX; her daughter Linda Anne (Irish) Bostic and her husband Keddy of Jupiter, FL; two grandchildren, Jason Irish of Fort Worth, TX and Kedric Bostic of Jupiter, FL; one sister, Judy Hodge of Tallahassee, FL and one brother, Joe Tom Watson of Dotham, AL.
Interment will be held at Forest Park Cemetery on Thursday, December 30 at 10:00 am. Those who wish to remember Bette in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Providence House, 814 Cotton St., Shreveport, LA 71101 website: theprovidencehouse.com
