Marilyn Goetze Clawson, 94, daughter of Raymond and Frances Goetze, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on September 27, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Robert Charles Clawson, her brother, Raymond B. Goetze, and her sister, Sr. Helen Marie Goetze. She was most proud of the legacy she and Bob created. She is survived by her 5 children, their spouses, and 10 grandchildren. Children: Michael X. Clawson and wife Vicki of Panama City Beach, FL; Margaret C. Guarisco, MD and husband Gene (favorite son-in-law) of Tuscaloosa, AL; David F. Clawson and wife Polly, of Wilmington, NC; Theresa C. Snodgrass, JD, of Houston, TX; and Thomas J. Clawson and wife Laura of Bossier City, LA. Grandchildren: Rachel, MD, Amanda, JD, and Joseph Guarisco; Christopher and Kerah (Drew Resendez) Clawson; Garrett (Kelly), Carter (Lauren), and Zachary Clawson (fiance Hannah Willis).
Marilyn was born and raised in Wheeling, WV, graduated from Maryville College, St. Louis, MO and did graduate work at St. Louis University and the University of Vienna, Austria. It was in St. Louis, MO, where she met Bob, the love of her life. Married in 1958, the couple moved to Chicago, IL, where she taught high school (World Geography, History, and Religion), had 4 children, then moved to Shreveport for the opening of LSU Medical School in Shreveport, where their youngest child was born.
Marilyn was very active in the Shreveport community: LSU Faculty Wives, Book Club, Medical Auxiliary, St. Joseph's Church Guild, LSU Hospital Volunteer (logging 500+ hours), Investment Club, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and multiple PTAs (up to 3 at a time) for which she received numerous service awards and produced volumes of newsletters.
She loved to cook, and she was a voracious reader all her life. She and Bob enjoyed traveling, and between the two, they visited every continent on earth (except Antarctica). She was a loving care-taker for her family and gave the best bear hugs! We will all miss her frequent phone calls that always began with 'Howdy Doo!' She will be fondly remembered for her keen wit and enviable crossword skills.
Memorial Mass will be at St. Joseph's Church, Friday, October 15, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.
