Maria J Antis, 74, of Monroe, LA went to be with the Lord on Sunday July 31, 2005 after a long illness.

Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday August 3, 2005 at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Monroe, LA. with Fr. Theo Theoharis officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Monroe, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Road in Monroe, LA.

Mrs. Antis was born on October 20, 1930 in Shiloh, TN. Maria graduated from Shiloh High School in Shiloh National Park in 1948. She received her business degree from Draughon's Business College in Memphis, TN. While working in Memphis, she met her late husband, Gus Antis, and moved to Monroe in 1953. Together they operated the Beacon House Restaurant on Louisville Avenue. In 1959, they opened Antis Advertising Specialties and operated these businesses until the summer of 1962, when they sold the restaurant. They owned and operated gift shops at the Monroe Regional Airport, Ramada Inn, and Holiday Inn Holidome. In 1986, after losing her husband, she continued to work with her son, Alex, in the advertising business until 1993. Maria continued operating the Holidome Gift Shop until September 1999 before retiring. She was a member of Delta Rho Delta Sorority, Bayou Desiard Garden Club, Note Bene', Quota Club International and Helping Hands FCE.

Maria was a life-long and founding member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. She had the privilege to serve on the church's Ladies Philoptochos as Treasurer. Vice-President and President, where she was instrumental in organizing annual Greek Bake Sales. She served as a Sunday School Instructor, with the focus of the classes on readings from the Bible and the Orthodox Divine Liturgy. She also served on the church's Parish Council as Secretary and Treasurer. In November of 2002, Maria was honored by her church and the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Atlanta, GA when she received the Diocese's highest recognition, the Archangel Michael Award, for her years of dedication and service to the Greek Orthodox Faith and Community.

Survivors include, William G. "Bill" Antis and wife Suzanne, and their daughters, Jennifer and Katherine; Andrianos G. Antis and wife Lynn, and their children, Gus, Audrey, and Adam; Denice Maria Antis and her daughter Briana; Alexander G. "Alex" Antis and wife Nicole, and their children, Nicholas and Abigail; mother, Beulah Johnson, brothers, Marcus Johnson, Jr. C. D. Johnson; sisters, Francis Counce, Shirley Keck, and Louise Darbin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Robert E. "Bob" Kelly, Bobby Kelly, Randy Haynes, Adam Antis, Nicholas Antis, and Gus Antis.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Pete Kovata and Tony James.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday August 2, 2005 at the funeral home.

The Trisagion Service will be at 7:00 PM Tuesday August 2, 2005 at Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel on Sterlington Road in Monroe, LA.
The family request that memorials be made to Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2011 Forsythe Avenue, Monroe, LA, 71201.
