West Monroe - Geraldine Weir Marionneaux King passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, after a brief illness. She was 82. Gerri loved her large family, explored many cultures through her travels across the U.S. and abroad, enjoyed reading, loved to learn - especially languages - and savored beautiful music.
Gerri grew up in West Monroe, graduated from Ouachita High School in Monroe and received a master's degree in Education from University of Louisiana at Monroe. She was an educator, a charter member and choir member of McGuire United Methodist Church and enjoyed a career in environmental sales.
Gerri is survived by her siblings, sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They include her eldest son, Wayne Marionneaux and his wife, Darra, of Shreveport; her middle son Barry and his wife, Wendy, of Chromo, Colorado; her youngest son Scott of West Monroe; and her stepsons Steve King and his wife, Diane, of Boulder, Colorado; and David King and his wife, Jean, of Little Rock, Arkansas. Gerri, the oldest of the three Weir siblings, is also survived by her sister Katherine Sue Rainer of Baton Rouge; and her brother Harold "Bud" Weir, and his wife, Charlene, of Alexandria.
Gerri loved her extended family, who called her 'GiGi,' and includes grandchildren Amy Ogle and her husband, Brad; Leigh Lanier and her husband, Bo; Nicole McGaha; Rachel Arlice Marionneaux; Sarah Marionneaux; Noel King; Brandon Marionneaux and his wife, Arden; Brooke Goforth and her husband, James. Her great-grandchildren are Jack, James, Zeb, Emmy, Zane, Emma, Andi-Kate and Bruin.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Oather and Arlice Weir of West Monroe; her husband Bob King of Little Rock, Arkansas; her former husband Ralph Holden Marionneaux of Shreveport; and her brother-in-law Bob Rainer of Baton Rouge.
A service to celebrate Gerri's life will be held at McGuire United Methodist Church in West Monroe on Sept. 29, 2018, at 11 a.m., with a reception for family and friends following at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
