He enlisted September 30, 1861, at Camp Moore, Louisiana. He re-enlisted on May 23, 1862, at Edwards Depot, Mississippi. Company muster rolls reflect his status as present throughout his military service. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after Confederate forces surrendered at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. He was paroled at Vicksburg on July 10, 1863. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after Confederate forces surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 26, 1865. He was paroled in Natchitoches, Louisiana on June 20, 1865.
