Barbara Walker was born March 17, 1934 in Columbia, Louisiana. She was the 6th child of Verna Eva Wilkins. She passed away at home peacefully on November 13, 2017 at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her mother and brothers Merlin Wilkins, Berl Wilkins and Boyd Wilkins, as well as sisters Sybil Hixon and Opal Berlin.

Barbara graduated from La Salle High School in 1952. She then studied Business Education at Northwestern State College and moved to Shreveport in 1955 to work with the Girl Scouts of America and then United Gas. She married Billy at the First Baptist Church in Shreveport on November 29, 1958. With the birth of her children beginning in 1960 she stayed at home to mother and care for them. She went back to work in 1977 for Lee Dry Goods. In 1979 she began working at the Northwest Baptist Association as a secretary and retired from there in May 1997.
Barbara was a devoted mother and enjoyed sewing and gardening. She was a member of the Red River Quilters for several years. She enjoyed traveling and especially the camping trips with the family to Arkansas.
She was grateful for how professionally and graciously Dr. Alan Borne took care of her. Barbara's family is extremely appreciative of her loving caretakers Luberta Freeman and Amanda Lane, for their dedication and devotion to her as well as to Billy.
Barbara was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty, peace and healing that would await her in heaven.
