Funeral services celebrating the life of Esther Kathleen Anderson McGinnis will be conducted at 11:00 AM on July 31, 2013, in the Rose-Neath Chapel at 1815 Marshall Street in Shreveport, LA with Rev. Kathy Wafer presiding. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM.

Esther was born on May 21, 1921 to Eva Rebecca Fisher and Arthur Erwin Anderson in Thayer, KS and passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013 in Shreveport, following a lengthy illness. She was 92 years old.

Esther married her best friend Tom McGinnis on November 6, 1949. They lived in Tulsa, OK while Tom finished Tulsa University and Esther earned a PHT (Putting Hubby Through). They made Cotton Valley their home for the next 24 years, then moved to Shreveport.

Esther was a homemaker, except for several years in Cotton Valley when she was a Head Start teacher. She was active in the Methodist Church, PTA, Band Boosters in Cotton Valley, in Broadmoor United Methodist Church and UMW in Shreveport. She received her 50-year pin from the Pearl Chapter of Eastern Star in Thayer. Esther was a loving wife and devoted mother who was frugal but generous with her family. She enjoyed attending her children's activities, sewing, cooking, creatively saving money and reading to her grandchildren. She was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and LA Tech Bulldogs. Esther also enjoyed the Shreveport Symphony.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Thomas Luther McGinnis and by her brother Arthur Dale Anderson. Left to cherish her precious memory are her children, Rebecca Ann McGinnis Williams of Shreveport, LA and Robert Alan McGinnis and wife Barbara of Benton, LA; four grandchildren, Lauren Leigh McGinnis Sisson and husband Tony of Hot Springs, AR, Christopher Paul Williams and fiancé Sheryl House of Fort Worth, TX, Samuel Thomas McGinnis and wife, Kaley of Shreveport, LA and Molly Shea McGinnis of Austin, TX; and one great-grandson, Logan Sisson of Hot Springs, AR. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Lola Anderson of Thayer, KS; long-time family friend Ann Nash of Shreveport, LA and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Wen Liu, his nurse Missy, and the 5th floor nursing staff at Willis Knighton Pierremont for their care and compassion during Mom's recent stay. Special thanks are given to Pierremont HealthCare Center for their care of Mom for the past 11 years and to Willis Knighton Hospice for their support during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home, Box 929, Ruston, LA 71273 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
